Wireless Internet

We all are familiar with internet. Today, the usage of internet is increasing day-by-day. Also wireless internet has become popular today. A mobile network uses wireless data connection for connecting network nodes. This reduces the cost for installing network cables for connecting various equipment locations. The mobile internet uses wireless technology, in which the connections are usually implemented using radio communication. This implementation generally takes place in the network layer of the OSI model.

While most wireless internet choices lack the high speed of landline broadband web connections like cable and dsl, newer wireless internet technologies like EV-DO and WiMAX are narrowing the gap, with maximum speeds of up to 7 Mbps in some cases. Wi-Fi hotspots and wireless LANs are also choices for wireless internet connectivity. In these cases, net connectivity is usually delivered to a network hub via a wired connection like cable, satellite, dsl or fiber optics and then made available to wireless devices via a wireless access point.

A wireless router (or Wi-Fi router) feature that’s designed to permit users to simply grant “visitor” access to your wireless internet connection. There are different types of wireless networks. Now let us have a look at these:

The usage of OFDM or spread-spectrum technologies helps the users to connect across a local coverage area, and also remain connected to the network.
  • Wireless mesh network: A wireless mesh network is implemented using mesh topology. The messages are sent through nodes. Each node sent the message to the adjacent node. This topology has the property of automatically re-route. Also this has lower power consumption.
  • Wireless MAN: A Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks (WMANs) is generally used to interconnect several wireless LANs.
  • Wireless WAN: Wireless Wide Area Network (WWANs) is usually used to interconnect networks over large geographical areas like neighboring cities or towns. The connections are usually established using parabolic dishes or point to point microwave links. Rather than omnidirectional antennas that are used with smaller networks.
  • Cellular network: A cellular network is also called mobile network which is a radio network distributed over areas called cells. Each cell has a fixed transceiver, known as base station or cell site.
